Egg Fight

In Russia there is an old tradition to boil eggs in onion peel in order to color them for Easter. When the eggs are colored and chilled adversaries pick their eggs and hit them against each other. The goal is to break the shell of your opponent's egg without breaking your own. If you succeed you can make a wish.

A good one. There's a similar practice (onion coloring) and tradition in Slovenia. Coins are thrown into Easter eggs placed in a row on the ground. It's called 'egg cutting'.

Thank you for kind words and for sharing your Easter tradition. I think Gabi Greve would appreciate if you add this tradition to the blog:

Sounds like a fun tradition. I wonder if the wish ever comes true?

Thank you. Hard to tell. My wishes usually come true. I've been playing this game since I was a child. I rarely lose:)

Great new photo.

Isn't it fun? I wait the whole year for this. I've developed several techniques to minimize the chances of losing this game:)

At Simply Haiku posting board I've learned that there are interesting Easter traditions in USA too. I had no idea they exist.
I've learned about marshmallow animals put into microwave.

last peep standing
faces meltdown

Natalia, my godfather used to have this technique to win every time. You see, he had rather large hands, and he would hold the egg so that only a small part of the crack was showing, and the rest would be hid in his hands. So one day, when my older brother got big enough to have very big hands too, he decided to camoflauge a plastic egg in his hand and pretend it was a regular egg. He beat my godfather, who was quite distraught at having finally lost his title. After, when my brother opened his hand and showed him what he had done, our godfather was thrilled that he still retained the "legitimate" title as egg cracking champion.:)

Dear Aurora

What are charming story. I really enjoyed it. I usually pick an egg very carefully. All shells are different. The best egg is the one that has visible deformity at the sharper end. In my experience holding the egg as close as possible to the sharper end helps. And never let your opponent strike first.
