How sad. As "foul" as geese can be they have some wonderful qualities as parents and mates. Excellent haiga!!

Thank you. This weekend I went to explore a nearby pond hoping to take pictures of baby geese. There were several families. One attracted my attention. They had only two chicks. One was sound asleep and the other running around. Their parents were smaller then other birds and I guess very young and inexperienced. When I approached they looked confused. When I came too close for comfort an older goose that had been peacefully lying in the sun leaped forward with an agressive hiss. At that moment I noticed that it was missing one leg. I was touched because it was not protecting its own chick. It was disabled and still put his life on the line.

I learned something (not that, that's uncommon) about a month ago, when the female is in the "motherly" way the male will not eat until she has eaten all she wants. Had some friends prove it to me at the lake. I was amazed!!
